Jay,
Rosy and I moved to France just under three years ago. We expected to have two months to get ready for the move, but the lawyers managed to set things up so that we only had two weeks. We arrived with 420 large cardboard boxes (many of them labelled just "John - radio") plus furniture. I have just opened and dealt with the last of the boxes.
I have not been able to check out the caves around here as an old (non-cave related) back problem has recurred and my doctor has advised me to do nothing more ambitious than tourist caves. Other matters have also got in the way.
On the strength of my G call I was able to get a full F licence and, although one cannot officially reserve a particular call, I got the one I hoped for. I have intermittently been on 40 m phone, and have been working towards being operational on 136kHz but when you emigrate* at our age all sorts of things take much longer than you expect.
Regards,
John F5VLF
* should I speak of moving to France as "emigration" nowadays?
