Hi All,
Re: Building New Loop Antenna

Spent the last weeks building a bigger loop for 600M listening. It's 12 foot SQ. One turn is 42 feet. I had an old wooden cross frame and by extending it and adding 2 more x-arms it turned into a Monster. So named because now it's almost too big for one adult to handle. Mostly made of 2X2s, 'cuz that's what I had lying about. It now sits in a mount out back and can be turned manually. Latex painting and drying added to the frame building time.

Finished it today. But before I wound it I did a test with scrap wire. 2 turns produced 70 uH. How about that L?

Just had to see what it was hearing. I hooked up a tuning unit from a 5-foot loop and with about 750 pF it tunes the lower BC band. Great stuff coming in there. No amp used. As is, tuning rx down to about 450 several NDBs are heard but other noise falls off as expected.

Planning on wraping 7 or 8 turns in finished form. Not sure how to get all that wire up and not having turns fall of. S/B fun.

Peter
