Andy,
It's OK to leave the receiver in USB mode. For practice purposes, I'd
recommend starting up on 20 meters, with the receiver set to 14.070 MHz,
USB. You should see a forest of PSK31 narrow-gauge railroad track
signals. With MultiPSK running in PSK31 mode, you should just be able to
click on any of those signals and get a decode.
Assuming that works out, then you can also practice with using the
receiver in CW mode as well. In that case, you should set MultiPSK's RX
offset (on the Config screen) to 800 Hz. With the receiver in CW mode,
tune up from 14.070 MHz, and center any signals you find on the 800 Hz
mark on the waterfall.
As far as the present activity on 600 meters goes, Jay and I have been
experimenting regularly at 0200 UTC (9 PM EST) on 508.500 kHz. If you
tune in tonight, you will probably find us in either PSK31 or PSK63
mode. The catch is that we are testing a program with ARQ error
correction, and if we are sending files, there will be a bunch of extra
characters mixed in with the text. If we are just chatting with each
other, then you will get clear text. But be advised that as time goes
on, we may test other modes, and you'll have to figure out which one is
currently in use. If we are looking for reports, however, we will have
publicized the test in advance on this reflector.
