That was WE2XGR/3 and WE2XGR/2 on 508.5 kHz running further tests in PSK31 of the NBEMS VBdigi/Flarq
emergency communications software.
The program is capable of sending text, e mail and image files using packets with checksums for zero
error transfer. Every so often the transmitting end checks with the receiving end on whether all of
the packets were received correctly. That's why you will hear some back and forth between stations.
Once file transfer has begun, operation is under the control of the computers at each end and the
operators are just along for the ride! One 'glitch' seems to be an ocassional simultaneous
transmission which might make it appear as there is a third station on frequency. The program is
designed for only two stations to be 'linked' at a time for the file transfer. A third party can
view the progress with any decoder that will work with PSK31. You'll see the message but it will be
broken up by checksums and other communications between the linked stations. There are other modes
that we may test in the future but at the moment most of what you'll hear is PSK31.
As always, reports are appreciated.
