[Lowfer] CFL Noise

Banned here as well...along with light dimmers...and other switching devices
that don't pass muster.
In addition to the fundamental in the 40 - 70 kHz range there are also
harmonics that fall in more 'interesting' frequency ranges. Some of the
noise components, even though not audible, can compromise an Argo 'noise
floor'. Ridding the receiving setup of these and other noise generators is
like peeling back the layers of an onion - a many step process. If your
receiving setup is 'clean' enough you're likely to hear CFL noise at many
frequencies...at least the ones I've tried.
I suspect the incandescent bulb manufacturers will not take this gov't
mandated folly laying down. There will still be a need for rough service
bulbs for ovens, fridges, drop lights, etc so they'll continue to crank them
out...probably in all normal sizes and wattages. Might cost a bit more but
they'll still be available. Of course there will also be an incandescent
black market as well...
Gov't regulating light bulb usage. What's next? I hate to imagine...
Jay
