Ditto what Mike said. Fact, loop people have touted that as as reasons to join their legions. (Hmm, tree huggers come to mind too.  :=)  I have joined the contra forces and used the chain saw at will.

Seems the maven at WEB learned this on one occasion too. As was reported in the LownDown some years back, Bill made a big multi-turn loop out of large PVC pipe and guyed it from the apex with some rope (type?) at multi ppoints. After a rain the thing received poorly when wet. He later attributed that as a shielding effect from the wet guy ropes. Seems a minor item, still ... .
Based on that telling, the current loops here are not guyed that way. Ha, might say I'm a Nadir kinda guy  ;-]

Wood & metal are bad news for a 1750 meter signal. I proved that with my 
trees. I am sure you are radiating better with the wire away from those 
objects. Trees are terrible at this freq. I suspect water soaked lumber 
would be darn similar.
