I'm not Steve VE7SL, but I know both of us have heard the Brazilian beacon 
BHZ on 520 kHz; it's listed with 1kW power. BHZ has been heard all across NA 
as well as Europe. There was one Brazilian NDB DXer I corresponded with 
once; he lived in a city and reported exceptionally high noise levels, and 
could barely hear NDBs several hundred miles away in his own country. But I 
would imagine someone living in the country could hear a lot better, with 
quieter background.
