John W1TAG and I have run some initial tests comparing PSK31, PSKFEC31, QPSK31 and PSKAM31 using low
transmitter power over a 70 mile path. All modes work well when the s/n is good...as expected. As
the s/n drops the differences become apparent. The ratings from worst to best are as follows:

PSK31
QPSK31
PSKFEC31
PSKAM31

QPSK31 offers an advantage over PSK31 in roughly the same bandwidth. PSKFEC31 and PSKAM31 offer a
further advantage, but at the cost of additional bandwidth and/or lower throughput.

Tonight's test will be QPSK31, 63 and 125. The transmitter power will be 400 watts and the frequency
will be 508.5 kHz. Schedule as follows:

0100 - 0120Z QPSK31

0120 - 0140Z QPSK63

0140 - 0200Z QPSK125

Suggest either Spectrum Laboratory digimode terminal http://freenet-homepage.de/dl4yhf/ or MultiPSK
http://f6cte.free.fr/ as suitable decoders.

As always, reports are appreciated.

There will be some pretest transmissions of various modes...in case anyone wants to play 'name that
mode' ;~)
