Will you have receiving equipment along with you in AK?

Ed et al - Im kind of getting used to a continuously raised hotter
ionosphere and the S meter sitting up there - Its taking me back to my
RO days/headphones and ear-ache trying to pull sigs out of the constant
hash and cracks in the South Pacific/Africa. It will be a pleasure in a
couple of weeks to be in the lesser noisy states of Alaska and Virginia
and back in the woods for a week or so...

Cooler and wetting Singapore

In "the good old days of spark" static in the summer months guys
tended to shut down all ham activity and the time was spent rebuilding
equipment for the fall. One early 1920's cover of QST had a neat
drawing showing "static babies growing" and a distracted looking guy
with earphones on. These days we can do a little better but can't beat
old mother nature. Long integration time helps of course.
