Hi Zack,

Well, our Industry Canada here (the FCC, if you will) has recently tabled a
proposal on antenna towers that'd surely blow the socks off of you American
guys...

In essence, the rules will treat ALL tower installations (be they Ham,
commercial, whatever) the same: if you want to erect a tower, you'll first
have to check with the local folks (yup!) to get their OK. If even one guy
has a bone to pick with Hams, look out...

If you want to appeal a local ruling with Industry Canada, fahgetaboutit!
They'll defer to the knowledge & wisdom of the locals, because the
government simply doesn't want to get involved...although they don't
actually come right out and SAY exactly that!

I can just see how much power & authority the locals will truly have in such
matters, if, say, some cell phone provider wants to erect a relay tower some
place! In those instances, probably none.

I personally subscribe to the "...do it first, then apologize later"
process --- and I've said so in a letter to RAC. I've also added that if
ever I erect any new towers here, I'll be sure & put a Canadian flag at the
very top...

Nobody wants to go on record as saying they're against nationalism here, but
they sure won't (and don't) hesitate to stick it to those least capable of
(financially, anyway) defending themselves...
