Hi Mike,

Probably the most surprising "...acronym origin" (to me, at any rate) is the
one for the term "....snafu"...and I learned about it on PBS (that's "Public
Television Service", to you acronym-challenged out there reading this, Hi
Hi)...

At the risk of repeating what many may already know, it seems that during
the daunting task of constructing the Alaska Highway during WW2, the
"grunts" doing all of the digging, hauling, etc., would periodically get
requests from on-high as to why a certain delay(s) may have been
encountered, slowing progress: invariably, it came to be that the reply was
simply that the crew had hit a snafu --- i.e. "situation normal: all f**ked
up".

Interesting --- and on educational TV, at that!
