If your built in soundcard in the AC97, it's not worth using for much
more than playing back the windoze sounds.
Rather than purchasing VAC in order to enable you to use the built in
soundcard, consider that the built in AC97 soundcard is likely junk.
The softrock and SDR users have evaluated these soundcards and they
are horribly noisy-so noisy that they mask weak signals. This is not
an exaggeration or just a matter of a few db extra noise.....it's an
enormous noise output that significantly degrades your ability to
copy weak signals.
Before spending any money on any soundcard add on, be sure to check
it's performance, especially how noisy it is. Creative Labs have a
few really bad performers as well, so you can't just shop by the brand name.
Enjoy,
