Richard has this option on his new Gateway, the PCMCIA route. I only now found this out on a search!
EchoAudio offers a add-on sound card  for a Type II Cardbus. It has dual sterio I/O and 24b DSP.

Ha, new it's pricey. There may be others of this kind.
