Fellows,
Re: Zapped RX Gets Repaired
Last month my Drake R8 rx went dead in the LF range. Just the night before it was hearing okay. Still, many BC stations were still showing up, ha, guess that's no suprise. The LF range only had BC images. Now that's a clue!
So I sent it off to Drake service and they reported a few diodes shot. Understandable cause and effect matter. But now I'm spooked: What caused it? I disconnect the ant rx input 98% of time. The ac is on an older filter, "Data Schield." It's over 20 years old. The R8 is about 18 years.
Idea: Might a 1:1 LF toride balun at the rx aid reducing exposure to RF spikes? I know about the diodes accross the ant. and wasn't using any.
Any Thoughts?
Ah, but that's not all. last week's storms brought ice perils. I have a T and the ends have additional capacity attached, using Gutter Guard AL screen. Yep, light weight but great collector of ice. The top pipe above a 50ft tower was bent. Pullies all frozen so too the ropes. The down lead detached. But overall not bad for an ice storm, huh?
