[Lowfer] Reflector and forum

I follow Alberto's thinking and I am sure it would work in a perfect world.
I believe some of the initial resistance to invoking new "meeting places"
was that there was more than a smell of an ego-trip by those "organising and
touting them", when these facilities became generally available. This is
not the case in this event. The LWCA membership is mature and fairly stable.
However the other effect has been in many cases that both do not survive the
forum starts to carry mail, and the reflector becomes moribund. Remember
that many of those of us outside the US (like those of you who sub to the
RSGB LF reflector) are not so interested in local politics of even "local"
technical details so much as info on activity, which a more immediate need.
I also find that the "Technical repositories" whilst useful soon become
"old" and whilst an archive is useful, one stops visiting sites that dont
change much. Just look at the fall off in messages to the web site message
board after John reconstituted the reflector for us. I used to "log in"
regularly but as few new messages appear one gets out of the habit. (must
have a look tonight !)

If both could and would survive I am sure they would co-exist, but there is
the fact that posters are lazy.....just look at the number of chevrons in
some messages and that is after JD has has bludgeoned you (us) into some
discipline :-))

I certainly appreciate the work done by John and I have gained a lot from
being able to be part of the LowFer gang. As such I would not like to see
anything that would fragment the "userpool"

Best Wishes for the "Festive Season"....aw to hell with PC, Happy Christmas
!!
