Id agree ref the additional environmental losses - 8ft was my min
height of my loop, though it did sag a bit as the trees were physically
being stressed...

Ted,
My sense is that any gain in area from making the loop closer to ground
will more than be eaten up by increased environmental losses. Bill
Ashlock has suggested 6 feet as a minimum. My loop is more like 8-10
feet above ground. It's probably also a good idea for keeping people and
animals away from the loop while transmitting.
