Alan,
The level of the EU BC stations has been quite good in the summer for at
least the last two years. On those rare quiet nights, they are quite
listenable. Unfortunately, it's been anything but quiet lately! We keep
getting storms approaching from the west, and then departing over the
water.
I was tuning around just before 0200 UTC last night, and the station on
183 was running a 1 kHz tone prior to resuming programming. Both
sidebands were nicely represented in CW mode.
Probably won't be doing much transmitting from here for the next two
weeks. Jay and I are trying to evaluate these big Hafler audio
amplifiers for service at 500 kHz, and I have some bench work to do this
week before taking another week of vacation in Maine starting on Saturday.
As of this writing, the solar wind density continues to rise, so that
coronal hole flow is on its way. There was a big gap in the ACE data
overnight, but it doesn't seem to be related to any solar event.
