Thought you might like to see this reply I got from Al Klase on milsurplus.
Looks like we were both right!
Incidentally, if anyone has junkers of these things, the 135 kHz IF cans
cover an obviously useful frequency range.

Hi Dave,

Yes, there were different versions.  The two examples here
are a BC-1206-A by Detrola and a BC-1206-C by
Setchell-Carlson Inc. The "A" has six octal tubes, including
two 25L6's to get the necessary audio output from the
28-volt plate supply.  The "C" uses five loctal tubes with a
28D7, dual beam-power tube, as the audio output.
Surprisingly, the 6-tube set is an inch shorter.
