I got a surprise call this evening from Bill, WA8LXJ. He has gotten back on
LF, and his "XJ" beacon operates in CW mode on 189.15 kHz from near
Cincinnati, OH. Bill doesn't care much for the slow modes, so the only
stations he can receive regularly are BOB and WEB (TH was a regular earlier
in the season, but not for the past couple of weeks).

Back in the "good old days", XJ and LEK were able to carry on CW QSOs almost
nightly over a 730 mile path. That was before the discovery that a computer
is required to copy a LowFER signal <g>
