Hi All,
I had a intresting confersation with my Older brother today. he is still in
KY. 85 Years old and still pretty sharp.
WW 11 Vet. was in a field observation, forward obsever.
South Pacific. Any how he was talking about the War and equiptment they used
in Observation. he couldn't remember all the details, but they had a device
that that took sound from a open mike xmiter planted near the target. and
punched in a few cordinates, then after they fired the Guns the thing would
print out a sheet of paper 3 feet wide and their would be the target area
with big splotches on it telling where the shell landed. and they would make
adjustments accordingly.
Any one know what it was called or any thing about it ?
He said the trick was, getting the xmiter out near the target.
in the calculations they used speed of sound to the xmiter and their known
gun cordinates.
Just thought it would be intresting.
