"Ed,
My Grandparents lived in Wilmar, CA in 1947 and I remember the same
changeover. (I think Wilmar changed to S. San Gabriel didn't it?) Edison
was
going out and getting peoples clocks and reworking them and giving them
back. It must have been pretty labor intensive. I wish I knew what
became of
Grandmas old Seth-Thomas.
My parents told me how the lights flickered when they lived in the Canal
Zone because it was 25 cycle there.

I live in "north" San Gabriel and Rosemead is between us and South San
Gabriel, which may not be incorporated. There is an area a bit to the
southwest of us which I labeled "Wilmar" southwest of us a bit, but it
doesn't appear to be incorporated.

I do understand that resedential appliance were replaced as appropriate
but, at least in Altadena where I lived at the time, I don't think
anyone came door to door looking for stuff. The conversion was in
process when I arrived and perhaps that had already been done.
