[Lowfer] Lightning/ESD problem, question...

Interesting, Kurt.

I see two issues, including the one you address. Consider that a
spike-type lightning arrester is not intended to receive a spark but to
merely reduce the nearby ion charges so they don't build up to discharge
levels. It's the discharges that produce QRN, something I sure you
endure much by way of your zip code.

So is it an issue of noise reduction or equipment protection or both?
Ha, I think the latter. You may offer some ion reduction on your
property, but the strikes around you likely will cause both QRN and
safety issues beyond you control.

I wonder, have you had any surges on the AC or comms lines so far? Much
damage? I've only heard of a few such incidents locally, and then in a
rare Hell's-On-Fire electrical storm. Only lost 2 tv color modules (same
ones) on a Zenith set while I used 300 ohm line. Switching to coax and
grounding the outside stuff cleaned that up. Also now use high-end surge
box for expensive electronics now.

Say, your "neighbor" Art Bell had some issues w/ outdoors HV after
putting up a multi-tower system for wire ants.

Problem. Lighting and static. I have had as much as 130,000 volts
generated on as little as 11' of wire. There is also the occasional
massive
lightning strike on the property.
