[Lowfer] CRYSTALS?

My neighbor used to run a CB shop at the local truck stop, and he almost
always had a line of customers out front. I went to his shop several times,
and saw the demand for legal and illegal CB gear. Eventually, he got raided
and had to shut down.

No one wants the old AM only CB's and no one wants the older 23 channel
units. The really old stuff had crystal mixing schemes to get the right
combination of frequencies needed to get all 23 channels. This takes a
minimum of 12 crystals and a fancy channel selector switch. The crystal
frequencies are widely varied in the 8, 10, 11 and 12 Mhz ranges.

My neighbor had a wall of these older models (for parts) and told me to
take whatever I could use. At the time, I did not take any of them. More
recently, the radios are all PLL synthesized, so they aren't nearly as
valuable for salvaged parts.

Anyone with a CB shop locally should be able to buy xtals in bulk for next
to nothing. Check the phone book, and ask around. Many of these places
don't advertise, which is their way of flying below the Feds radar:>:
