[Lowfer] Bad operating practices/XFX update

I had trouble with the code too. The PC morse generator made too much
clicking in the speakers to really tell what was being sent. I tried the
ARRL tapes too, but there was some sort of problem either with the head or
the magnetic field of the tape that I could faintly hear the letter being
sent before it was supposed to, whats the opposite of an echo? And the
biggest distraction yet was I had just met the future XYL with whom I was
practicing! I probably used the most unique line ever to get into a girls
pants:

"Wanna practice CW?"

It must have taken three months to get proficient with code which I later
calculated really only took about six hours to learn.

I found the best way was hands on. I scrounged up a couple J38 keys,
mounted them on boards and used an old Eico practice oscillator with bad
condesers. Talk about a lousy signal! But it worked best of all. I set up
the keys in parallel with the oscillator between us so we could talk back
and forth acrosss the kitchen table.

You will find that at some point things will just click and you will fall
into a natural mental momentum. I feel comfortable around 15 WPM.

I know the code
solidly now, but my speed is only up to about 8wpm or so (I'm taking the
exam to upgrade to General Class in about two weeks - changing my call,
re-IDing my beacons ...) and so I'm not yet quite able to copy most of
what I hear on 40 and 80m -- most of it is a little too quick for me yet.
