So the trees are affecting the active whip. Hmmm, interesting. The only
thing I did different was to short out the loop terminals as it gives me
slightly more field strength by doing so. Lyle reported 3db loss. The
flattop is on now and the loop is not shorted anymore. Let's see what Lyle
comes up with.

Mike,
At first you were down about 3db from the loop's reading and then back to
almost the same level. Did you do any tuning? One point to note is that I am
off to an angle of about 20 deg so that could make Lyle's earlier comparison
similar to mine.
Here's another interesting piece of info: I drove to a location not too far
from here where it is quite flat and no trees. You are 10uv/m there, rather
than 7! The noise level, again, is low, so a good night for testing.
