[Lowfer] Hifers NC, HI, GA, PBJ, GL and AZ received in Mississippi

Ed,

I copied a series of 6 AZ calls at 2230 UTC. There may have been more,
but that's how many I wrote down on a scratch pad before I stopped - old
habits die hard. I think there may also have been some other info
earlier, maybe a grid square, but the series of AZ calls was Q5 copy.
Signal strength was pretty low. I didn't try to measure the exact
frequency since I was listening for aural cw, but it was pretty much
what was given on the LWCA web page. I also should say that I was "just
passing by" and was not camped on the AZ frequency for any significant
time, so the time of reception may not have been optimal.

I'd guess the declining solar cycle may be the reason you are having
difficulty. The 2106 UTC A index was 18, Flux at 119, and K was 3.
Maybe a year ago conditions were sufficient to support a short haul from
AZ to LA, but no longer? Others will doubtless be better informed on
this.

What time and frequency for AZ? Have been listening diligently
here
(LA area) and haven't heard it. A year ago it was a strong signal all
day.
