That points out a tradeoff between too much or too little capacity in the 
variable capacitor (in the resonant capacitor bank). It's convenient to have 
a lot of control when experimenting with different loop configurations, or 
if you want to change frequency on a regular basis,  but a real problem for 
finding that 'sweet spot'. I use a variability ratio of about 1 in 16. 
That's 500pf variable out of about 8000pf total. On one of the finals (two 
in box) I brought out a terminal that allows me to parallel additional 
'rough' capacity to the bank when large changes are needed.

Here's another kink: My two trimmers inside the plastic final box are 
accessible via a small hole. I cover the holes with a piece of electrical 
tape that gets pealed back when adjustments are needed. This tape seems to 
hold up in the weather and lasts for years.
