[Lowfer] CRAP

OK,

I started catching some spyware when I installed Sygates free firewall in
my win 98 machine. I was stunned to see all the programs that attempted to
connect to the internet without asking! I locked them out...every single
one. I deleted Real Audio, figured I didn't need it-especially since it was
a big offender and because it insisted in sucking system resources (ran in
the system tray, couldn't stop it).

It sounds like some of your problem might be due to the absence of a decent
firewall-that is one that notify's you when unauthorized aps attempt to
sneak out 'under the wall'. The first time an ap attempts to connect, you
get a pop up box asking to allow it or block it. You also get a 'set it and
forget it' option so it doesn't keep bothering you!

While the XP firewall maintains stealth as you surf, it does absolutely
NOTHING to stop transmissions that originate from you! It's a one way
firewall and it not customizable. Strongly suggest you dump the XP firewall
and get the Sygate free firewall.

Maybe there are others here who can comment regarding the security issues
in WindoZe.

Regards,

Art

PS:I'm studying AdAware 6.0 now, it looks very good-especially it's cookie
control:>:
