Paul, my thinking is that little is gained from a RX loop that large over
say a 10ft diam loop..... but you do get more signal for that long trek to
the shack. In so far as the need to shield, it would depend on how you
connect to the loop. I like to use a core with a single turn primary to a
multiple-turn secondary in order to step up the Z. This theoretically allows
the loop to 'float' relative to the E-field.
