Evidently the interplanetary mag field swung north when the the blast hit,
so there's no big deal thus far. More impacts may follow, though.
A really good one would have the following effect at Bill's site:
Those little mica caps would instantaneously fuse. The resulting current
surge would melt the loop in less than a second. This would of course set
several trees on fire. A flaming branch would ignite the neighbor's cat,
who, still recovering from his latest arrow wound, would wobble home,
thereby burning down his owner's house. During the hearing for the
inevitable lawsuit, Bill would blame the sunspots. The judge begins laughing
uncontrollably, has a cardiac seizure, and dies right on the bench. Bill is
then convicted of murder, and sentenced to 20 years of hard labor in a mica
quarry.
