[Lowfer] antenna current

Hey Eric,
When it is running well, it should be able to be heard at 160 miles in CW
day or night with an 80-meter antenna and a general coverage receiver. The
CW will be able to go further with a good LF receive station out a ways. My
loop makes it to 162 miles in CW day and night with the receive station
using a Hy-Tower that is NOT resonant on LF and a general coverage receiver.
I haven't found anyone out past that distance to listen for it. Also you
should be able to easily hear the CW with a portable receiver at 20 miles
and probable out somewhere around 100 miles with a good active antenna and
portable receiver. I have had excellent success with a Sangean 909 receiver
with either its internal loop stick or a LF Engineering LF400 whip on a
tripod.
That should give you some general distances to shoot for. Others have made
it well past this distance, but this is just my personal experience with
driving around listening to my looper signal. Your mileage will vary.

Looks like I've done something right...John Reed, only 68 air miles from
me, has been trying to copy my LF signal from time to time all summer.
Finally, today, after last night's tuning, he saw my signal "loud and
clear" early this afternoon. He measured my frequency at 185.30175 kHz
during daytime copy.
I'll be continuing to fool with the antenna system tonight to try to
increase antenna current.
