Nope, I can't! The only "radials" I have are the two sides of the
water main; my ground connection is sort of in the middle. I could run
some radials about 6 feet long out to the south but they wouldn't do any
good at all. The problem is that the tower is stuck between the house
and the driveway and the space in between is only a few feet. Think of
it as a strip of dirt about 8 feet wide and 150 feet long with the
tower just east of the middle. In times past I did try running some
wires out over the lawn but not surprisingly I saw no effect. I could
go out about 30 feet in each direction and attach some radials to the
water main ad run them perhaps 40 feet in the "cross" direction but that
would be a real pain and I'd have to hire a trained mole to dig under
the yard and pull the wires in so that my wife wouldn't complain!
Radials are super if you have an open space, but NG on a narrow lot.
This is just a lousy VLF location and I'm surprised the tower works as
well as it does on 160 meters and down. If I could figure a way to
feed my 55' crankup tower with a whole bunch of beams on top that would
work better but there's no way of insulating the base since it's set in
two yards of concrete to withstand the wind loads. I guess I could try
making a loop out of it but that would be extremely awkward.
