My bet is on the lower noise floor. There are some real experts here, who
should provide a scientific answer to this, I would think. Usually what you
hear during the winter is local dimmers and such racket instead of lightning
crashes. There were many summer DX receptions a year ago and some this past
summer. As some would say, there is no season as it goes year around but
more operators climb out of the woodwork in the winter which increases the
reception reports.

Question:
Is the enhanced propagation in the winter solely due to the absence of
QRN, or does the cold WX in general provide better propagation?
