There has been some questions on simple LF converters and my HB
double balanced mixer is now working very well with no inside RF
amplifier
I used a run of the mill mixer that had good signal input handling
ability
( Mini Circuits have many that will work ) and used a Clock Osc as the
LO.
In order to make sure the in/out ports of the mixer were looking into
some
kind of a 50 Ohm load I terminated each one with a couple of resistors to
make a
3Db pad. When I boxed the thing I added a switch that allows to change
the RF stage
and it also had a direct input position . Now using the Burhams loop
mounted
RF stage the Mixer Converter is working without any shack pre
amplification
This then makes for a converter consisting of the passive mixer some
resistors to make
the 50 ohm pads and the LO that is providing sufficient mixer level.
Want to see it ?? I can send a JPG of this lash up
