You may be interested to know that I ran some PSK31 tests with Bob,
ZL2CA a
couple of years ago on 182.7 kHz-he had a very stable (level wise) but
weak
signal and there was practically zero static - this WAS during the
day-late
afternoon actually-would have been absolutely no use at night at that
signal
strength.(path is ~300km)
I was very surprised to find I could get reliable copy when I could not
hear
his signal at all. Was using a step attenuator on rx input and wound in

dB past the 'audible' point till copy failed-this in a 200 Hz rx b/w,
which
of course is only relevant in regard to the 'audible' limit. Just
approximating the b/w difference at about 10:1 there's still 10 db or so
'improvement'. I was quite impressed!
