Growling and sweeping was mentioned, don't forget those electronic water
softeners that growl and sweep and have been reported as far as thirty miles
fom the source.  I imagine this only happens when some idiot doesn't install
them on PVC pipes and couples them quite nicely to copper pipe.  Even
properly installed units may cause problems within a couple blocks.
