I *might* have something useful for this goal.

It is a combination of a spectrum display and a two-tone generator. The 
two tones are
sent in output from the left and right channel of the sound card. Their 
frequencies can
be locked, so that  they change together.  It wouldn't be too difficult 
to add a 90 degrees
phase shift to one of the two tones. You just have to be a little 
insistent with me... :-)
