Question: How is TAG generating the BPSK31 signal? Some of out here
on the west coast want to try both BPSK31 and PSKAM10 on VLF but don't
want to go to the trouble of building an SSB transmitter. IF we could
get the keying signal on the serial or parallel ports we could key a
biphase modulator from it and use a much simpler transmitter. So far
I've written a QBasic program to ouput varicode from a PC serial port
but haven't figured out how to get timing set right. Other possibility
is build a PLL to decode the sound card audio and use that signal. I
keep hoping someone will have gone to the trouble already!
If anyone cares to listen on 80 meters, we have two warbler-based 1'2
watt beacons running out here alternating between BPSK31 and PSKAM10.
K7RR is on 3580.700 kHz and my beacon is on 3581.000. I've gotten
reports from as far north as Seattle and as far east as Spokane. Not
exactly VLF yet but we thought it would be interesting to start where
things are easier. (Easier for the lazy that is.) The beacons are on
the air from about 4:00 PM local to 9:00 the next morning. Reports
appreciated.
