Stop up here on your way out and you can borrow my laptop. That way you can
watch my signal scroll by. It was last fall or late summer when Archie
listened to my CW signal at 162 miles on a general coverage receiver with a
Hy-Tower as an antenna.
I wouldn't doubt an Ashlock wire loop for an audible signal. They work plain
and simple. It would be worth the try anyhow. But then again it is a
vertical...
Oh well, you can listen to Ralph's CW as I can even here it up here with
lower noise levels, half the distance should be armchair copy.
Of course if you stop in to borrow my laptop, you will have to venture onto
the river for some paddling with Lyle, his XYL, and me. I have two kayaks
and three paddles. Hi Hi...
Have a safe trip. The winds have died down so it should be easy driving. Too
bad you don't have your license yet as the group could harass you on 75 or
40 meters while mobile.

Eric,
I think I'll take a pass on this one. 200 miles surface-wave on straight CW
in the summer assumes at least one of the following:
1. Illegal power.
2. Better receiving location than I should be able to find in the KC area.
3. Over-boasting of range capabilities from #12ga 50/50 loop (Come on
Mike!).
4. Solid copper soil.
5. 100% salt-water path.
6. All of the above!!
Bill
PS: Wish I had the portable computer set up for the trip.
