I would lay the mast on the ground fully extended and attach at the top
several wires
and run them the length of the mast. Carefully keep them untangled ( G )
and fold the
mast back up. As you install it you can tie the wires off to each section
as it extends and
use UV proof Tie Wraps "Black ones " Now you have a kinda multiple
versicle radiator
which should work well.

Any thick heavy glass insulator will work but Lyles ides of attaching a
Pc of PVC tubing to the
bottom is a good one 

If you use the rum bottle I will take the left overs
