Yep - should be able to do that. The only problem with some CAT5 is that the
outer covering does not weather well. It's relatively cheap so if you have to
replace it every few years it not too big a deal.

There is direct burial CAT5E available -  I'm getting some shielded direct
burial CAT5E in next week for an ethernet run up the tower. I've haven't run
across any of that stuff before - I'll let you know how it looks.

To answer your earlier question the lower WA trace is normally a bit stronger
here - but not by much - maybe a dB or two.
