Eric,
>I know you are using alot more power (75W is it?)
>How dangerous is this? (1w)
75 times less dangerous!
How careful should I be that my children don't get near any connections at
the top of the coil?
They can get a tiny bite and/or a tiny burn - worst case. Your high voltage,
which can be as high as 1kv (but only if you have a supper ground system in
place) drops to very low values once the hand gets close. The reason is that
the voltage and power is dependent on the Q of the total antenna circuit. If
a loss is introduced (the hand) the Q drops and so does the voltage. There's
probably more power in the spark you get after walking across a carpet and
touching a metal object.
Once we go to 100w, however, all bets are off. I'm sure there are as many
stories about good RF burns as there are users of this reflector!
Bill
