Now you're getting the hang of it! I think that output filter is causing the 
transistor current to be excessive when you are out of resonance. 
Theoretically the transistor current drops to zero as you go out of 
resonance. I subscribe the school of thought that says the filter is more 
trouble than it is worth when the Q of the antenna is high. Filters like 
this are designed for a specific load like 50 ohms and loads much different 
from the designed value cause excessive ringing that result in warming of 
the output transistors (Do you have a scope to check on this?). With the 
filter removed you can use the DC current to the final as a proportional 
measure of RF current into the antenna and you can tune your loading coil 
while monitoring this.
