It is real stretchy and molds into itself. Does this sound like yours???
Some rolls have the backing tape that pulls off before you wrap the
connector. I don't remember the numbers, but it sounds familiar.

I found some 3M 2242 Rubber Electrical Tape at Home Depot that appears to be
the 'right stuff'. It sticks to the connectors and coax without the need to
add an outer layer of regular electrical tape. It is 3/4" wide and .030
thick. Sells for $4.00 in a 3" diam roll.
