Yes. I can copy 30 wpm by ear, but those higher speeds require a higher
signal to noise ratio. It's a challenge to copy even a 5 wpm signal when
things are noisy. That's why QRSS works so well. If I remember my
experiments correctly, a signal that was just barely copyable by ear at 6
wpm could be dropped by about 20 dB and be just copyable in QRSS30 mode.
