[Lowfer] Buy a variometer?

That particular variometer has been kicking around on eBay for a long time now.  I don't think the opening bid was always set so sky-high; wait for it to come around again.  

An eBay Advanced Search for "variometer" or "variable inductor", with the Title and Description option chosen, will frequently turn up old receiver-type units, but I did locate a huskier one, General Radio 107c, in its own wooden box.  Good luck finding it when the seller doesn't know what to call it...radio parts, tuner, coil, etc.  Also, 600m ship transmitters with built-in variometers occasionally appear.
