John,
Thanks for the welcome.
Yes and yes. I'm planning to do both a beacon and long haul TX/RX. No, I
haven't done anything RX lowfer yet. I'm bidding on a SRR-11A. Should that
happen, it'll extend my receivers and I'll be closer to lowfer status...

Thanks for the links too. I'd found the lwca recently and I'm beginning to
discover loads of yet more neat topics. I'm a Tech. ham and more familiar
with the VHF/UHF end when my time permits. Do you use multiple antennae? One
dedicated to a beacon? And another for TX/RX? What kind of gear do you use?
My tiny collection includes: Collins 51J4 and a Hallicrafters S36-A I used
to listen with when we lived in Gaithersburg, MD.

David, KG4OVY

David,
Welcome to the list! We're all happy to answer any questions, listen for
weak signals, or whatever. Are you planning to set up a CW beacon, or
something more long-haul? Have you done any listening down in the 160-190
range, yet?
Some good links for background information:
Longwave Club of America site:

Lyle Kohler's site:

Les Rayburn's site (not fresh, but with plenty of introductory info):

Alberto DiBene's site for slow-speed CW receiving software:

Note that this stuff is most useful with stable receivers. Boat-anchors can
drift too much for the slowest speeds.
