All,
Re: Setting Up Argo And WIN95 - Notes
Just got Argo 130 installed on my new PC-233 running Win95B. I had a
few problems and resolved them. Here are the beans.
I happened to "come across" two pcs needing a home and they both had
P233 mmx CPUs -- and some related problems. ;-))
The first was a COMPAQ, it turned out to be a bad dog as it requires a
proprietary to access its BIOS. Unreal. All I wanted to do was check on
drive configs and couldn't see em. Unless one gets all the software
disks w/ a pc -- beware of being locked out.
The next was a similar DELL, and F1 opened the BIOS menu. Great. I
checked it out and it seemed like a good player. I installed a SB16
sound card and next loaded Win95B, my latest windoz and fine for a
basic, Argo pc. After the reload, I put the downloaded Argo files into
an Argo folder and tried it: Errors! It was asking for members from two
separate DLLs. It needed some files or upgrades.
One I got from the Argo Web site as an update: OLEAUT32.DLL (find in a
zip file on the Web). The other, MSVCRT.DLL was taken on another pc with
a later windoz ver. Both these files can be placed in the win-system
folder after first checking if older vers exists. If so, rename the
older/orig ones something like ... .org, as a back out measure. I didn't
do that but placed mine in the folder I keep the Argo files in, which in
my case is "Argo132."
That done, Argo was executed and ran OK. I then setup a folder scheme
for storing captures and configured that option-tab in Argo.
Next test will likely be hunting for HiFER UWL on 13.555 when I get the
ant work done.
Cheers
Peter
