I certainly DO want to build one of the original CP666 based versions.  In 
the AMRAD QST article they do say that the CP666 outperforms the J310 in 
this way.

I'm so pleased with the one I built, that if the original version works 
that much better then ... neat!

I'm such a beginner ... can you or someone explain what overloading the 
amp sounds like?  Do you mean off-frequency stations bleeding through?  Or 
(more likely :) something more than that?  I've been using mine without 
shutting down my MedFER.  I can't hear anything from it when listening 
below 500 kc...or is it affecting my reception and I don't even know it?
