Hi Peter... the "1 ft" is the diameter of the roll... the width of the
ribbon is 3 or 4 inches. This receiver
<http://www.n4xy.com/rcvr_vlf_gpd-111.html> is still in use in the Navy, on
board Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarines. How one got surplused out, and
ultimately to me is a wonder beyond ordinary luck (to me, anyway.)
I have a LOT of wire... many 5k rolls of former (probably PVC-but maybe
something else-and not the later used Kynar #30) wirewrap wire-~ #28-maybe
#26-I forget. It just seems like a good way to achieve some constant
spacing, and a heck of a lot MORE wire on a given frame than using single
wires and nails/etc. would accomplish.
Where are the designs on the web? I could do a search, but I suspect
there's a zillion loop antenna references-with most not related to VLF.
It might interest you to know yours is the ONLY reply I got to my inquiry.
And that's one more than I got the last time I asked a similar question.
Many thanks... I'll let you know how things work out.
